Homework - Study for the Football test that we will have tomorrow (Thursday) in PE class, and study for the Health Test so you're prepared and ready.

Friday October 23 (HEALTH)

Today, we talked about Group Decision-Making. Sometimes group decision-making is much harder than making a decision on your own. There are, and will be, times where people will try to pressure us into doing things we don't want to do, or say things we don't want to say. Sometimes, we get "sucked" into doing or saying those things because of peer pressure. At times, it may be hard to get your opinion or point-of-view across to others when in a group of people. More pressures and circumstances come into play than just going through the "six-step decision-making" sequence. Many youth are drawn into destructive activities based on bad group decisions. Stand up for YOU and what you know is RIGHT. Make sure you surround yourself with others that will bring you up rather than pull you down.
Take Away: Learn the correct steps to good decision-making.

Starter #2 - "Give us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for - because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything." --Peter MarshallToday, we talked about Decision-Making. Students learned the six steps to decision-making, which are:
1. State the situation.
2. List the options.
3. Weigh the possible outcomes.
4. Consider your values.
5. Make a decision and act.
6. Evaluate the decision.
Students also learned what happens when they make responsible decisions, and that responsible decisions should lead to actions that:
1. Promote health.
2. Protect safety.
3. Protect laws.
4. Show respect for self and others.
5. Follow guidelines set by responsible adults/parents.
6. Demonstrate good character.
Students turned in their "Surviving High School" Assessments - they were due today.
Take Away: Learn the correct steps to good decision-making.

Monday October 19 (HEALTH)
Starter #1 - "What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." --Ralph Waldo EmersonToday, students received a new "Starters" worksheet. Students also finished sharing their "Life Sketches" in class. The rest of the class time, students worked on their "Surviving High School" Assessments, which are due in Health class on Thursday October 22nd.
Take Away: Take the time to get to know others - find out who they really are.
*Character Development* - Build relationships.
Homework - "Surviving High School" Assessment (Reflection Writing). Typed or handwritten is accepted, as long as it's legible. Needs to be at least one page, but remember - quality over quantity. This is due on Thursday October 22nd.
Students are to write on ONE of the following questions:
1. Reflect on the video and what you have learned form the past couple weeks in Health class.
2. Write a letter to yourself five years from now. What advice would you remind yourself about from the video/class activities?
3. Write a letter of apology to someone you have hurt. (Example: bully to Franklin)
4. Write a thank you letter to someone who has stuck up for you, or taught you a valuable lesson in treating others the right way. (It could be a friend, classmate, parent, sibling, teacher, coach, etc.)

Last Day for Make-up/Late Work (P.E.)
The last day to turn in Late and/or Make-up work for First Quarter PE/Health class is Friday October 23rd. Please make sure that you come see me if you have any questions about any missing assignments. Students also continued sharing their "Life Sketches" in class. Because Fridays are shorter days, we will finish presenting these in health class next Tuesday.

Mile Run Make-up Test
Last Chance!
All students that did not run the Mile Run Fitness Test in class due to an absence or injury, or who did not come after school to make it up during the first make-up day, this is your last chance to make up the mile run before the end of the quarter:
When: Wednesday October 21st
Time: 2:40 p.m. sharp
Where: Outside at the back benches located behind the gymnasium.
*Remember to dress in your PE uniform with the proper athletic shoes.
(This is the only time this year that students will be given two opportunities to make up the mile run this quarter. After this quarter, there will only be one make-up day per quarter. Students, please make sure that you "Take Responsibility" and complete your mile run assignments. Thanks!)

Today, students took a short quiz on the "Surviving High School" DVD. We then corrected the quiz together in class. Students were then given "labels" for our "Label Activity", which is just one of the few activities that we will do from the "Surviving High School" DVD.
Take Away: Realizing that we are more alike than different.
