Today in P.E. we started a new unit--SOCCER! We began with some of the basics--passing and dribbling. I hear some students say, "Why do we have to go over the basics, I already know how to do this." My reply to them is, "Even the pros still practice the basics." The best way to teach and learn a new sport is to start with the fundamentals.
Teaching points for passing the ball:
-step forward into pass
-place non-kicking foot beside ball (should be pointing in the direction of the target)
-contact the ball with inside of foot
-body leaning over the ball
-eyes on ball
-snap lower leg quickly
-follow through with lower leg
Teaching Cues (3 S's)
-Step up along side the ball
-Strike with the inside of the foot
-Snap leg and follow through
